If you think your venue, brand, or business can cut the competition to clinch one of this year’s beda’s, have a look at the categories below to find out what’s relevant for you. Both new and substantially refurbished venues that opened or were re-launched between 1 June 2007 and 31 May 2008 are eligible to apply. The venue categories will be judged on popularity, atmosphere, customer service, entertainment/music, safety considerations, drinks presentation, cleanliness, design and technology.

Winners from each venue category will be considered for the UK title, with the most outstanding and impressive venue taking home the coveted beda.

NB. You may only put forward a particular venue for one category, so please select your category wisely.

You may put forward as many different venues for one category as you wish, unless they are from the same branded chain, in which case you may only put forward one venue from that chain.

UK Venue of the Year

Guaranteed to be one of the most sought after accolades of the beda’s, this title will distinguish the jewel in the crown of all new and refurbished venues that have opened their doors this year. The winner will outshine all others by demonstrating exceptional levels of excellence within operation, ambience, customer service, drinks offering, safety, design and technology. The UK Venue of the Year will be cherry picked from one of the six winners of the categories below.

Best Club

This year’s Best Club award is open to all nightclubs across the UK. If your selected venue has a dancefloor and a DJ booth you’re eligible to apply, but only ones which demonstrate operational excellence, high levels of service and the ability to consistently throw a good party will be in with a chance of winning.

Best Bar

If the operation of your chosen late night venue is centred around a bar and a great drinks offering, this is the category for you. Nominees will have a well presented bar that functions smoothly, offering a speedy and professional service. It will also have a unique drinks offering and a fantastic atmosphere.

Best Student Union

If you know of a student union that could give the local bars and clubs a run for their money then it could be in with a chance of clinching this title. The winning venue will host music and entertainment to rival that of the highstreet, operate at the same high level and have a cutting-edge look to match.

Best Hybrid Venue

Best Hybrid recognises multi-functional venues that offer different kinds of leisure spaces all under one roof. If all assets, be it bar, club, live music venue, or maybe even a restaurant, operate to the same high standard, so that a customer need go nowhere else for the night, then you should be applying for this award.

Best Live Venue

This category incorporates bars, clubs and dedicated live music venues that regularly host live bands as the focal point of their offer. Only ones with perfect sound quality, intelligent design, great facilities, modern technology and a forward-thinking approach to entertainment will beat the competition.

Best Activity-Based Venue

This award recognises the achievements of emerging activity-based venues that centre around, for example, karaoke, gambling or bowling. Judges will be looking for bars, clubs or casinos that operate successful and popular activities in tandem with an outstanding late night bar.

Multiple Operator of the Year

Corporate enterprise or independent business, judges will be looking for innovative operators who implement a forward-thinking approach, have a successful estate of late night venues and react well to tough market conditions.

Best Venue Brand

If you’ve mastered a winning formula for a late night venue and rolled this out through a branded chain we invite you to enter this award. Judges will be looking for consistency via high levels of service, drinks, entertainment, overall look and technology.

Best Use of Technology

Judges will be looking for a venue that showcases the latest in creative and functional technology. Operators and installers are invited to nominate any late night venue and the award will go to the installers who have designed and implemented the system.

Best Use of Design

Any style of late night venue can be put forward, by operators or designers, to be considered for this design accolade. The winning designer will have created an aesthetically stunning, carefully crafted look that matches the style of the venue, with a ‘wow’ factor.

Best Drinks Brand

This award will recognise the most outstanding drinks brand that has stormed bars this year and smashed the competition. The winning brand will have pushed boundaries within the on-trade by way of a successful product, an innovative marketing strategy and impressive sales.

Best Food Offering

This new category opens up the competition for any type of late night venue, where the venue’s merit lies in a mouth-watering food offering. Judges will be looking for unique and attractive menus, and food that is well presented, well served and, of course, delicious.

Shine Award

One of the beda’s’ most prestigious award recognises venues that go above and beyond the call of duty on responsible retailing to ensure customers are safe. It is brought to you by leading premium drinks company Diageo, which is a pioneer in responsible drinking and is dedicated to this cause. Backed by the Smirnoff brand once again, The Shine Award is one way in which the company promotes the importance of responsible retailing. With tighter regulations and the government’s increasing obsession with ‘binge-Britain’, it is more important than ever to take a serious and committed approach to responsible trading.

Manager of the Year

A progressive, creative leader with a successful career behind them, the winner will have an exceptional eye for the business and a personable character. Applicants can nominate themselves or be nominated by a colleague, by submitting a brief CV listing related achievements.

Hall of Fame

The inaugural NIGHT presents...the beda’s sees the launch of our exclusive Hall of Fame. Each year three inductees will be invited to join the Hall of Fame, based on their unrivalled commitment to and influence upon the late night economy throughout their careers.
