BII to speak at Alcohol Harm Reduction COnference.

 

BII Chief Executive John McNamara will be speaking the Alcohol Harm Reduction Conference on Friday 17 October 2008 taking place at the College of Emergency Medicine, London WC1R. Entitled ‘Working with the Industry’ John’s presentation will cover pricing, responsible retailing and promotions, enforcement and young people.

 

The conference is for leaders, decision makers and practitioners who are committed to reducing the harm associated with alcohol in our communities. Attendees are expected from local government, health, the police, CDRPs and LSPs, education, fire services and town and city centre management.

 

The conference aims to:
·         focus on areas where significant harm reduction can be achieved through effective partnership working
·         provide a comprehensive update on latest reports, government measures and proposals
·         cover alcohol-related crime and disorder, chronic and acute ill health caused by alcohol, public perceptions of drunken and rowdy behaviour, impact on A and other hospital services
·         examine the important new opportunities and mechanisms presented by the new Local Area Agreements for the delivery of local alcohol harm reduction targets
·         identify next steps for joint working for practical action in the ongoing development and implementation of multi-agency alcohol harm reduction strategies

 

The impressive line-up of high level speakers includes Don Shenker, Chief Executive of Alcohol Concern; Professor Ian Gilmore, President of the Royal College of Physicians and Chair of Alcohol Health Alliance UK, as well as key players and well-known figures from DCSF, the Home Office, the Department of Health, the Met Police, KPMG, St Mary’s Hospital and the University of Sheffield.
