best Bar NOne National Conference a success

Best practice was rewarded at the first national Best Bar None (BBN) conference in Doncaster on 23 September 2008. The winner of the Most Innovative Best Bar None Scheme Award was Bobby Smiljanic from the Leicester BBN, who was presented with a cheque for £2500, to help develop the scheme, donated by the Home Office. Following short presentations from the four finalists, delegates voted for the most innovative scheme.
The other finalists were Sgt. Richard Hurt from Lancashire BBN, Jane Eastaff, London Borough of Havering BBN and Ann Brennan from Camden BBN. Each finalist received two free copies of the BIIAB Award in Assessment of Licensed Premises (Social Responsibility) handbook along with two free exam places.
Lord Redesdale, BBN Chairman said, “The first national Best Bar None conference has been a huge success. We had a capacity audience and the feedback so far has been phenomenal. We knew we needed to reach out to both existing schemes and potential schemes and I believe we more than met that goal.
He added, “Mark Cooper from the Home Office got the day off to a great start and really helped to position BBN in a national context. Each of the speakers brought together all the important themes and by the end of the day delegates felt both inspired and supported.
“The innovation award was a chance for schemes to really show what they have been achieving. All four finalists exhibited excellent schemes but the winning scheme showed exceptional good practice and I hope that other delegates can take some new ideas away with them.”
