SIA finds 95 per cent security compliance at summer festivals

Over the summer Security Industry Authority (SIA) investigators and enforcement partners
targeted four main music festivals held in England and Scotland. The operation was to check
security deployed at the events was compliant with the law, ensuring festival goers were safe
and secure with SIA licensed security operatives.
The SIA’s summer operation was a resounding success with investigators reporting an
average compliance level of 95% - of those checked.
The music festivals visited; Glastonbury, T in the Park, Leeds, Reading, attracted over
325,000 visitors.
Andy Drane, SIA Deputy Chief Executive said:
“The high levels of compliance shown for the summer operation demonstrates that festival
organisers recognise the professionalism and value of SIA licensed security operatives. For
many, music festivals are the summer, but it is vital that the hundreds of thousands who
attend these events are safe in an environment provided by qualified and licensed security staff.
“Our investigators will continue to work with festival organisers and security providers to build
on the success of this summer’s operation in ensuring public safety.”
