London Club and Bar Awards

Whisky Mist, Vendome, Juju and Cuckoo Club were amongst the winners at The London Club and Bar Awards, which took place on Tuesday 26 May 2009 at The Riverbank Plaza Hotel, with the afterparty held at Mayfair’s Jalouse. Jo Wood attended, along with a plethora of key players from the London club and bar scene.
The London Club and Bar Awards 2009 rewarded outstanding achievement over the last 12 months within the capital’s nightlife industry. The competition was split into 13 major categories, with the winners as follows:
Best Night: Tuesdays at Whisky Mist (Whisky Mist team pictured)
Best Promoter: Luca Maggiora (Maddox + others)
The Design Accolade: Vendome
Best Boutique Club: Cuckoo Club
Best New Boutique Club: Monroe
Best Bartender: Papa Jules (Mahiki)
Best New Bar (sponsored by London Lite): Whisky Mist and Juju
Best DJ: Tariq
Best Club: Maddox
Best New Club: Jalouse
Best Member’s Club: Molton House
Sexiest Hosts: Jake Panayiotou, Cai Ferrer, Gareth J. Briikes, Alex Webb, Dan Kapp, Roger Michael, Sam Young, Sophie Raibin, Matt Cranwell, Vedran Milosovic, Jake Parkinson Smith
Lifetime Achievement Award: Rusty Egan
A committee of club goers, national newspapers, media partners, key nightlife entrepreneurs, and club industry experts decided the winning entries from each category.
Previous recipients of the lifetime achievement award include Richard Branson, Mark Fuller and Nick House.
The evening began with a lavish drinks reception in the glass-encased ‘Thames Room’ overlooking the Houses of Parliament. This was followed by the awards ceremony, which was held in the 'Grand Ballroom'. Guests were served a Pan-Asian feast whist watching the ceremony play out onstage. Large screens situated to either side of the stage displayed video montages of nominated bars, as well as interviews with key players in the industry.
The event was sponsored by Piper-Hidsieck, Kopparberg, Remy Martin and Akvinta Vodka.
