Portobello Star Relaunch
UPFRONT, news, night online, COMMENTS
Following a takeover by independent bar operators Leelex Ltd, Notting Hill’s Portobello Star has undergone an extensive refurbishment and is ready to be unveiled as the area’s newest haunt.
Inspired by the market’s heritage the new look Portobello Star brings together old and new using handmade reclaimed wood furniture, antique mirrors, and modern lighting, combined with a friendly, experienced bar team that together captures the feel of an inviting neighbourhood, cocktail tavern.
With award winning Drinks Director, Jake Burger, at the helm you can expect tipples of connoisseur quality, yet in an informal and fun environment. Jake’s past accolades include representing the UK in the Belvedere Vodka International Luxury Bartender of 2007 competition, reaching the national finals of the 02/Arena Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2007, winning the UK Pina Colada King crown in 2007 with Elements 8 Rum and receiving the highly sought after award of Best Night Out in the UK for Jake’s Bar (Leeds) at the Class Magazine Bar Awards in both 2006 and 2007.
The Portobello Star is set to offer something for everyone, opening first thing in the morning to catch the early bird with fresh fair-trade coffee, and serving up a simple home-made food menu throughout the day before taking things up a gear to full bar mode through the evening. In addition to the extended main bar downstairs there is also a small lounge room on the 1st floor, making the Portobello Star both the ideal venue for meetings or for a private party.
The Portobello Star is the fourth bar in the Leelex portfolio, joining Oporto Bar, Jake’s Bar and The Angel's Share, all in Leeds, and is a welcome addition to the already thriving bar scene on and around Portobello Road.
The Portobello Star refurbishment utilised resources from a skilled team made up from both Leeds and London, including:
Interior Design: R interiors, The Depot, Fulham
Builders: Gary Makin and team, Leeds
Reclaimed walnut bar top: Jonny Allams, Freelance Carpenter, London
Reclaimed furniture: Saxon Dermot at Metro Retro, Essex
Leather Furniture: Marcus Kenyon, Leeds
Logo design: Barry Darnell at Made by Analogue, Leeds
