Legendary Belfast venue to close

Classic Belfast venue Milk is to close its doors after ten years of serving high-end dance and R‘n’B to the Cathedral Quarter crowds.
Renowned amongst Belfast’s nightlife for clubs including Karma Sutra Sundays, Milk 54, Play, Honey and Forbidden Fruit the venue regularly attracted big names like Danny Rampling, Tim Westwood, Trevor Nelson, Jeremy Healy and Allister Whitehead.
The venue changed hands in 2005 when Mark Byrne of Life Inns sold the premises to Tony Roddy and Bernard Conlin, and in more recent years the venue thrived under the ownership of Ryan Morton. Nonetheless the club closes on 15 February, and the decision is reported to be based on branding reasons.
A source said: “The closure of Milk has nothing to do with the credit crunch. The owner just felt that after 10 years, it was time to say goodbye to Milk.”
Local DJ Pete Snodden, who began his first permanent residency at the nightclub prior to joining Cool FM, said he had great memories of the club.
He said: “It is a sad time to see the doors shut on this remarkable venue that holds the most amazing and |unforgettable memories for all of us who frequented it.
“Milk set the bar for many other clubs to live up to, but as we all would agree it would be very hard to match that. I wonder if anyone will ever even come close.”
