UPFRONT, news, night online, COMMENTS
The second version of Safe and Sound, a set of guidelines to tackle on trade problems concerning controlled drugs, weapons and other crime, was unveiled to members of the trade and other business stakeholders by the Metropolitan Police Service on 2 July.
The new guidelines cover best practice on a range of social responsibility and security issues, including organizing safe dispersal, CCTV and security training, as well as guidelines for conducting correct search, seizure, arrest and crime scene preservation procedures.
As well as details of the new guidelines, the forum held at the Emirates Stadium in North London included presentations on various issues from the glass bans to terrorism made by various members of the trade, the health services and police.
An unscheduled speech was also made by Ch Insp Ian Roach of the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTO), delivered in response to a suspected attempt on 29 June to cause an explosion outside a London nightclub.
While Roach confirmed that there was “no specific intelligence pointing to a threat around nightclubs”, NaCTSO have created new guidance, Counter Terrorism Protective Security Advice, and a new incident training package, Argus, for bar and nightclub operators seeking to ensure the security of their venues.
