Allen & Heath Xone:2D
Products, Sound, April 2008, COMMENTS
Allen & Heath has introduced the Xone:2D, the combination of a nine stereo channel USB2 soundcard and MIDI controller, which DJs can connect to their existing analogue mixer to integrate software such as Ableton Live and Traktor DJ Studio, and create a complete digital DJ mixing system.
The high quality 96kHz 24 bit USB2 soundcard can send four stereo channels to the PC and receive five stereo channels from the PC. A large array of connectors is provided for easy interfacing into any DJ setup. The 2D can also be directly connected to turntables, CD players or linked to an external mixer. Digital inputs and outputs (optical and coax) are also provided. Any combination of the soundcard outputs can be monitored with the headphone system.
The Xone:3D BPM counter with LED display is included, which is capable of detecting a beat in music presented on any of the three analogue soundcard input channels or one of the analogue soundcard output channels using the rotary selector. A MIDI clock generator, which can be set using the illuminated tap tempo button, or sync’d to the tempo detected by the BPM counter, is provided, and features the MIDI clock nudge facility of the 3D.
The MIDI controller connects via USB to a computer and also has 5-pin DIN MIDI sockets for connection to any MIDI-enabled device, and features four 60mm linear faders, eight detented rotary pots, 19 push buttons - four of which are illuminated, five rotary encoders with “push to switch” function, a multi-function jog wheel with switched navigation control and a cross fader.
